Sketch artist Ben Heine is bringing his distinctive ‘Pencil vs. Camera’ visual inventions to London next month with three shows between October 6 to October 30, 2011.
Last year (2010) National Geographic arranged a photo contest where great inspirational photographers from all around the world participated. The showcase from which judges had to select the winner was extreme inspirational and wonderful. I had a look at that showcase today and couldn’t resist to post some pictures from that here, to inspire my readers.

Unsafe Journey. A woman is riding between the railway carriages of a local train heading north from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Her luggage is tucked under the carriage in front of her. It is the month of Ramadan, a fast which culminates in Eid-ul-Fitr, a three-day celebration. Tens of thousands of people leave the city to go to their home village and celebrate with their families. Trains are packed and many who fail to get tickets before they sell out or can’t afford buying them at the black market ride on the roof of the train or, like this woman, finds a quiet spot between the carriages. Tens of thousands of people packed Pamplona’s main square on Wednesday for the launch of the “chupinazo” rocket that marked the start of Spain’s most famous bull-running festival.
These breathtaking images capture the hidden depths of the world’s biggest cave passage – so large the end is yet to be found. Hidden in the depths of the Vietnamese jungle lies The Hang Son Doong, part of a network of over 150 caves. Surrounded by jungle and used in the Vietnam war as a hideout from American bombardments, the cave passage is so large that it could hold a block of 40-storey skyscrapers. Its entrance was only rediscovered by British cavers in 2009.
